Health Literacy Begins with You!
What exactly is Health Literacy? Health Literacy is defined by Healthy People 2010 Project as the degree to which people have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. It is not as easy as you may think. The simple truth is Americans struggle with health literacy regardless of age, race, ethnicity, income and education-level. This leads to poorer health outcomes, less adherence to medications, overuse of the emergency department and repeat hospitalizations.
